Polar's Packaging Design

Polar's packaging design is delicious! The attractive shape of the clear glass jars containing Mandarin Oranges and Strawberry shown in this photograph is mouth watering and more than enough to make me want to buy this product. I love that there is no label to hide any of the space. All the information is on the metal lid. The simplicity of this design is beautiful. This packaging is also 100% environmentally friendly. (Note: Polar also makes other kinds of fruit in the same type of packaging.)

SoBe

SoBe's packaging design is not only 100% environmentally friendly, but their minimal design look is also eye catching. I like that they use a glass bottle with a metal cap and no plastic at all. The label is painted right on the bottle and it is big enough to be noticed, yet small enough to let you see the thirst quenching beverage inside. That enough to sell the product itself. I also like the logo, typography and design elements. The composition is interesting and balanced in a eye pleasing asymetrical design.

Gatorade's New Design

Gatorade's new packaging design has a minimal and sophisticated look. I think this is an excellent redesign, because it's bold and simple with a sporty look. Exactly what the beverage was intended to be used for. I am also happy to see that Gatorade is still using clear plastic, which is easier to recycle then pigmented plastic. And while glass is even easier to recycle, it would be unwise to use a glass bottle for a sports drink.

Quakes Rice Cakes and Snacks

Rice cakes are health food right. So why are they in a plastic bag? That's really not environmentally conscious. The blue color does not give me an appetite either. I would stack them in a box with a see through corner, which would extend from one inch above the bottom to one inch below the top. If you need plastic to keep them fresh, let it be clear plastic. I would also keep the design minimal, typography only.

Wheat Thins New Packaging Design

Wheat Thins new look is not much different then their old look. Notice there is one box with the old design in the photo. They have attempted to go with the current minimal design look, but they have not when far enough with it. I would have designed it with a minimal look that also gave Wheat Thins a more sophisticated packaging design.

Tropicana New Packaging Design

Tropicana's new packaging design has missed it's mark on at least two criteria. First, why redesign the packaging design and keep the out dated package? Second, the design aim is minimal, which is the current trend, but in this case subdued design scheme is not as appealing as the previous packaging design. I would have brought the package itself up to date (or actually, it would be retro) and packaged it in a glass container, which would not only sell the product itself by letting you see the delicious Orange Juice, but glass would be easier to recycle and therefore be more environmentally friendly. This is what the current minimum trend is all about. As for the design, I would go even more minimal. No need for the picture of a glass of orange juice when you can see the orange juice through the glass container.
